Her work has been featured locally at The Little Art Gallery of the North Canton Public Library, and the McKinley Museum. Along with persistent practice and exploration of a variety of tools and medium, Susan developed her penmanship and artistic skills by observing the technique of many accomplished lettering artist through calligraphy guild workshops. Eager to share what she learned from these enriching experiences, Susan has taught calligraphy classes for both adults and young people.
Come to the gallery Friday and Saturday between 1:00 and 6:00pm to see some of her beautiful creations alongside those from our feature artist Chris Benavides and many others!
"It has been recounted that upon debuting his “Messiah,” The composer Frideric Handel had asked someone in attendance what they had thought of his latest composition. Their response to his inquiry was that they had liked and enjoyed it very much. To which Handel replied, “I’m so very sorry. I was hoping that you would have been changed.”
Through my long experience and love of the human form and the desire to convey it's beauty in an evocative manner, my hope is that I might create art that would move others, either in ways similarly to how I have been moved personally, or in ways unique to the viewer. In terms of my motivation and inspiration. There is so much to the created order. A truly endless array of visual imagery which tantalizes and captures the imagination. From a simple, lyrical line, to the turn of a head, to the gesture of a wind-blown sapling, and which, I believe, point to the One who is the source of all beauty. For me, simple honesty is all that is required. No hidden meaning, or manifestos. Just a simple, honest reaction and response to what I see. These images and icons prompt me to share the Imago Dei that I see around me and which point to the ultimate artist and restorer, or repairer of cracked icons, of which we all are in some measure." Artist: Chris Benavides Market Street Art Spot says "THANK YOU" to all who came out to enjoy the opening of the fiber arts exhibit!

Artist's Statement: "In terms of artistic expression, drawing is my first love. At the beginning of every painting there is the drawing, the explorations phase; this is the force driving me to create - exploration of a new world through the small window of a painting, exploration of ever more dynamic ways to express it and exploration of myself, to see how far I am brave enough to go. I am an explorer with a pencil and a brush in a completely endless landscape of anything imaginable." On Friday, April 12th, the Art Spot will feature artwork of Minerva High School students, led by art teacher, Jan Clark. Music will be provided by "One String Short" and light refreshments will be served from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Artwork will remain on display through Saturday, May 4th.
