"In terms of artistic expression, drawing is my first love. At the beginning of every painting there is the drawing, the explorations phase; this is the force driving me to create - exploration of a new world through the small window of a painting, exploration of ever more dynamic ways to express it and exploration of myself, to see how far I am brave enough to go. I am an explorer with a pencil and a brush in a completely endless landscape of anything imaginable."
On Friday, April 12th, the Art Spot will feature artwork of Minerva High School students, led by art teacher, Jan Clark. Music will be provided by "One String Short" and light refreshments will be served from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Artwork will remain on display through Saturday, May 4th.
Keith, Kate, Jesse and Sarah...two generations of McMahons are displaying their varied artworks at the Market Street Art Spot now through April 6th.
The Silo Arts Studio, located in the Canton Arts District, is a working art studio and gallery space
created specifically for individuals with developmental disabilities. The aim of the Silo Arts Studio
is to bring attention to their artists and show their work in a manner that does not focus on their disability
but rather on their amazing abilities to create incredible and beautiful pieces of art. The Silo Art Studio
offers its artists a safe working space where they can experiment, learn through either successes or failures,
sit in lectures, and find community among people like themselves with the same passion for making things.
This outstanding exhibit showcases the art of
Ronald Babb, Grant Bowen, Anna Brady, Greg Caudill, Darick Frady,
Shaun Higgins, Autumn Jacobsen, Rex Mitchell, Cody Petry and Nicole Thurman.
Exhibit open now through Saturday, September 8th.
To celebrate the success and one-year anniversary of our neighbor, Sandy Springs Brewing Company, Market Street Art Spot is hosting an October exhibit with "brew-themed/inspired" artwork. We encourage all of our artsy friends to look over the exhibit agreement below for details then brew up some ideas and get creating! We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Mary Jane Ward, originally from Eugene, Oregon, had a nine year career as a professional ballet dancer and
has worked in a range of roles within the arts - performance, and production. Primarily self taught as a visual artist,
she studied at the Grand Central Atelier in New York City, under Jacob Collins, from 2012-2015. In 2017, Ward was one of three artists-in-residence at the Highlands Nature Sanctuary, part of the Art of Appalachia near Bainbridge, Ohio. The recipient of several Artists in the Community grants from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, she now
lives and works in Columbus where she teaches portrait, figure and landscape painting classes at the prestigious Columbus Cultural Arts Center. Mary Jane said recently that she prefers to draw and paint from life
and finds inspiration in the presence of her subjects. She added that whether sitting in a studio with a model,
or fully immersing herself in a landscape, the hours spent are meditative and transformative.
Mary Jane's work will be on display at the Art Spot through Saturday, August 4th.
